Pumpkin, pumpkin

Our Family Home Evening activity the Monday before Halloween was carving pumpkins. I didn't get any pictures of the actual carving process because it was just me and the kids. I was doing the carving. And since my kids didn't like the feel of slimy pumpkin guts on their hands, I was doing the cleaning out, too.

Ellen drew a face on her pumpkin and I carved it for her. Jack answered general questions (Do you want triangle eyes or circle eyes? How many teeth?) and was really happy with his happy face pumpkin.

Left: Ellen's pumpkin. Right: Jack's pumpkin.

We toasted pumpkin seeds. Ellen decided she liked them. Jack did not like them. I liked them, but since I only have roasted pumpkin seeds once a year, I ate a bunch and then ended up feeling a little funny in the tummy.

By the time I thought to get the camera out, Jack was in bed and Ellen and I were putting the pumpkins on the porch for Daddy to see when he got home from class. We found some candles in jars that Pa gave me and got those pumpkins glowing. I forgot to blow them out, so they were still going strong the next morning when Jack left for school. Filling the whole patio with the scent of creme brulee and candy corn. Yum.
